Unfiltered February: Raw Grit and Pure Character

FEBRUARY is almost in the rearview mirror, and what a month it has been, TEAM WHISKEY family!!! We are wrapping up the shortest, toughest, and grittiest month of the year with a massive celebration of what makes our bourbon truly special: CHARACTER. We call it UNFILTERED FEBRUARY, a time to lean into the raw, unpolished, and completely honest nature of what we do here at Team Whiskey Liquors.

If you’ve been following our journey, you know we don’t do things the easy way. We don't take shortcuts, and we certainly don't "clean up" our whiskey just to make it look pretty in a glass. We are all about that RAW GRIT. We are all about the FLAVOR that comes from a life lived outdoors. This month is about celebrating the fact that we are NON-CHILL FILTERED, keeping every bit of that delicious, fatty, oily goodness right where it belongs, IN YOUR BOTTLE!

THE RAW TRUTH ABOUT FILTRATION (OR LACK THEREOF!)

Most big-box distilleries are obsessed with "clarity." They want their bourbon to look like a polished gemstone, so they put it through a process called chill-filtration. They chill the whiskey down to near freezing so the fatty acids, esters, and proteins clump together, and then they strain them out.

Why do they do it? Because they’re afraid that if you put an ice cube in your drink and it gets a little "cloudy," you’ll think something is wrong. WELL, WE THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THAT LOGIC!!! Those oils and esters are exactly where the FLAVOR lives! When you strip those out, you’re stripping out the soul of the bourbon. You’re filtering out the VERY CHARACTER that makes every batch unique.
